Hi regular,
we didn't change strategy and limited our operation to the saturday
evening/sunday morning moon pass.
(our wifes did not allow us to come back home as zombies...)
.
We started 2 hours after moonrise with seasonal rain, fog and a hesitating
propagation.
Luckily Marc (ON5RR) worked hard and managed to finish off a retired OZ9CR-
ring PA in time for the contest. Although underdriven and fed with a
conservative (=low) anode voltage, we had 2 to 3dB more output power
compared to the 2C39-twin!
.
We added 15 stations this part for a grand total of 42 different stations
and 20+ multipliers. (all on random) Not bad for newcomers...
Talking about propagation:
only OE9ERC was heard calling CQ on SSB and just 3 big guns were wildly
moving the S-meter. (>559)
.
We called CQ on many occasions but never had any response!!!
4X6UJ was the lucky exception and he went straight in the log.
New country, new initial and new multiplier; thanks Ralph.
Other initials were:
-OK1DFC (sorry Zdenek, for having to quit abruptly on our first attempt
but the PA decided to oscillate and we had to retune all bias currents
as well as input/output coupling...thanks for the 449 anyway...)
-F5AQC (very solid sigs with good, quick CW)
-I6QGA (glad to work Italy for the first time after an italian contest with
no italians in the log...)
.
The following stations were heard and would have been new initials:
-JL1ZCG (heard on several occasions but always very busy...)
-JH3EAO (weak but workable)
-W4RDI (loud when working K4QI but never heard you afterwards)
-CT1DMK (too big pile-up...)
and DD0SB (only heard twice)
.
At 02Z, we decided to finally respond to our tired bodies and we quit.
We had a hard time combining our weekly working hours with nearly 180x
out of phase moon hours... We enjoyed every minute, though...!!!
.
Kind regards,
.
ON7EH, Michel
