Hello all HF DXers.

I sent a bulletin on 20/09/05 about Long Delay Echos, and asked for any
information about them. I haven't seen a reply, but surely some HF DXer
has heard them or knows something about how they are heard. I have had no
experience of LDEs, only read about them. Do they exist?

I have been thinking about Long Delay Echos (LDEs) that have been reported
by Amateurs using the HF bands. These echos, of a radio transmision, are
said to occur within seconds, but I have seen reports of delays of minutes,
even hours, after a being sent.

I can imagine an RF signal being conducted around the Earth via ionospheric
strata, which could account for 'seconds' of delay, but how can a radio
wave be 'stored' and received at readable strength 'hours' later?

This question recurred after reading some of the 'GHOST' bulletins, and
I think there may be a similar explanation as to the cause. I wonder if it
is something that comes from a 'fertile' mind.

Has anyone experienced LDEs, or can there be a reasonable explanation for
them. I remember reading about very long LDEs in CQ magazine, and I think
the author had recorded evidence, or at least a witness to back him up.
