10 YEARS OF 9A ---> 2002 marks the 10th anniversary of allocation of the 9A
prefix to Croatia and the Croatian Amateur Radio Association sponsors a
special award (http://www.hamradio.hr/award.asp) for contacts made with 9A
stations between 5 July and 31 December. The first 97 awards have been mailed
and the deadline for applications, to be sent to Denis, 9A3Z
(9a3z@hamradio.hr), is 31 March 2003. The 9A CW Contest, which is held this
weekend, is a good opportunity to work the award. [TNX 9A3Z]
40 METRES ---> John, NT5C, one of the more successful 40m SSB US DXers,
reminds non-US stations where to transmit on 40 meters in order to be heard
in the USA: "below 7100, most integral multiples of 5KHz (7050, 7055, 7065,
7085, etc) are 'owned' by nets and ragchewers in Central and South America
and Canada. The odds are much better for the DX if they get between those
integral 5KHz multiples. Good frequencies to try are 7047, 7052 and 7057,
which are above most of the CW, but below the RTTY."
KH6GMP/KH3 ---> Gary, KH6GMP ended up his activity from Johnston Atoll with
just a little less than 3000 QSOs. He lost his main antenna on 13 December
and had to go with a very low wire multiband that had been installed probably
many years ago and only 2 or 3 feet above the steel reinforced concrete roof
of the building. By the way, The Daily DX reports that "the building which
houses the radio station will be demolished in January and no station nor
antennas will remain". [TNX YO3/DL4AAZ]
PIRATE ---> QRZ-DX reports that someone pirated 9S1X on 80 metres on 13
December. Patrick, 9Q1A and his wife Nicole, 9Q1YL are moving from Kinshasa
to Matadi [425DXN 603] and expect to resume activity on the amateur radio
bands in early January.
QSL HL1VAU ---> Han, HL1VAU is working on the QSL cards received for his
HL1VAU/4 (AS-093, April 2002) and HL1VAU/3 (AS-080, July 2002) operations and
hopes to process them all within the end of the year. Bureau cards will
follow. He apologizes for the delay, due to circumstances beyond his control.
QSL VY0/W2NTJ ---> As the QSL manager for VY0/W2NTJ's operations in 2000 and
2001, Cezar, VE3LYC has received a lot of inquiries regarding his operations
in 2002. Jack did not contact VE3LYC before his departure to VY0, and as of
19 December Cezar had received neither information nor logs regarding these
activities. "I suggest for now that you restrain yourselves from sending
direct QSL requests for contacts with him made this year", Cezar says. [TNX
N1HRW]
QSL VIA DJ0LZ ---> Those who still need a QSL for YU1KW, YU1CV or YU8DX can
send theirs to DJ0LZ, who also handles cards for Z32FD and UT1QK. QSL direct
only to Ace Jevremov, P.O. Box 14, D-82378 Peissenberg, Germany. [TNX DJ0LZ]
QSL VIA LU8VCC ---> Effective 1 January 2003 the new address for LU8VCC (QSL
manager for LT5V) is: Alex Rocca, 217 Bis 1128, 8332 Roca, Rio Negro,
Argentina. [TNX LU8VCC]
ZL1AMO ---> Judy, AA7UC reports that Ron's conditions are improving. His
tracheal tube has been removed and as a result he looks better, feels better
and can talk.
