Hello, dear DSP enthousiasts. Recently on the Electronics in Amsterdam
i discoverd an DSP Evaluation Module from Motorola based on their
popular DSP56002. The module is named DSP56002EVM. This module is the
opponent of the also popular TMS320Cxx evaluation module from Texas
Instruments.
I would like to give you some topics from the product brief of the
Motorola DSp56002EVM.
Hardware. (assembled and tested PCB containing)
- 24 bit DSP56002 Digital Signal Processor operating at 40 Mhz.
Up to 20 Million instructions/sec (50 nsec instruction cycle at 40 Mhz.
Up to 120 million operations/sec at 40 Mhz.
Four 24-bit internal data buses, and three 16-bit internal address
buses.
512*24-bit on-chip program RAM with bootstrap ROM.
Two 256*24-bit on chip data RAM's.
Two 256*24-bit on chip ROM's containg sine,A-law and u-law tables
External memory expansion.
ON-Chip Emulation (OnCE tm) port, processor speed-independent debugging.
Serial communication interface
32k*24-bit zero-wait state external static RAM (25ns)
Crystal Semiconductor Stereo codec CS4215 (A/D D/A).
Sampling rates 48Khz,32Khz,16Khz,9.6Khz or 8 Khz.
16 bit linear, 8-bit u-law, 8-bit a-law and 8-bit linear.
optin for other crystals for other sample rates.
RS232 interface to OnCE (tm)
Documentation for the DSP56002,CS4215,assembler,and debugger, plus board
schematics.
Software
Motorola's DSP5600x cross assembler
- DSP56002 binary code from source using labels, line nummers, definitions,
and titles incorportig the architecture's complete instruction set
and adressing modes memory spaces and parallel data transfers
- Macros, expressions,functions..
- Extensive error checking.
Domain Tec(nologies debug software with windowed user interface (DOS).
- symbolic debugging®
- Four idependent windows for data, disassembly, DSP registers and commands.
- Built in assembler and disassembler.
Demo software showing the advantage 24-bits over 16 bits in audio processing.
Self-test files executables and source code.
Requirements
The user must provide the following :
Power supply 7-9V AC or DC, 700 mA.*RS-232 cable with DB-9 connectors.
IBM PC-compatible computer (-386 class or higher) running MS-DOS with a
serial port capable of operation at 19200 Baud.
Options
32K*8bit- flash EEPROM for program bootstrapping and stand-alone operation
A second RS232 connector to access the DSP56002 serial comm. port (SCI).

And are you enthousiast ?.0I think it's the best you contact your local
Motorola dealer. You can find many applications on the Motorola's
bulletinboard. I have already received my DSP module, but need more time
to develop HAM based applications.
May be are there already non commercial HAM based applications such as
CW/FAX/RTTY-decoder or packet-modem ?. Or may be is it use full to work
to gether to develop applications. I have seen many beautiful0DSP tools,
for easy developing program code for the DSP, but they are very expensive.
If you know where i can find more HAM based applications or inex ensive
TSP tools i would like to know.
May be is it interessting to form a work or project -group for the
DSP56002EVM ?
Happy DSP'ing, best 73's and hope to hear from you,
from Hans de PA3GPW@PI8ZAA.#NBO.NLD.EU
