Hi All,
Joe, DJ9YA, has told us about his trial with finding "sticky grease" for his R-4C. You may be able to beg a snmall qty. of "dam
ping" grease from someone who repairs camera lewns (lenses). This grease is used to make the focusing ring smooth acting. My TR
-4C doesn't require a stcky gease to work, but I just finished a repair and had to replace the grease in the bearings, which ha
d hardened. I didn't want to use auto wheel-bearing grease because frankly, it smells BAD. What I found was Zebco Fishing Reel
Grease, at my local Wal-Mart. Cheap, stcky, and NO aroma! Because most reels have plastic gears, I don't think it will harm the
gears in the dial drive, but I didn't use it anywhere but the shaft, because face it, these gears aren't under that much strai
n anyway.
