Hello fellow hams, I have an old drake TR7A with developed several
problems, all at once. May be due to a wrong voltage.
1) During CW reception the beat oscillator does not seem to work.
There may be another reason, the voltage controlled oscillator which is
supposed to be at 13.695 MHz is now at 13.700. So maybe the sigs are out
of the cw filter passband. Also the passband tuning does not work.
So, looking at the circuit diagram, maybe an IC MC14016 may be damaged.
However this is out of reach, I cannot measure the voltages.
2) There is a tool, to pull out the PC boards. It fits nicely into 2 holes
on the edge of the board, on which the VCO and the IC are located.
We did apply several kg of force on it, but the PCB will not move the
slightest bit. HELP. Is there any other way to do it? Did we forget
something? We cannot locate any screws which may hold the PCB.
3) One unregulated voltage (2-34 power supply board) of -5 volt, only
measures about -4 volts. I don't know if that's of any
influence, or a result of a too heavy load.
4) The transmitter will not give any power, but that's a problem for
the future. First we would like to fix the receiver.
Any help will be most welcome, to revive this nostalgic set!
