G'day folks,
here is the description or HELP for the DOSCOFAW.ZIP file/s.
It is a 7+ type collection. There are ten components to the
whole doscofaw.zip file.
Total unpacked file size is about 63kb.
INDEX
A. Description.
B. Examples.
C. Screen Layout.
D. F key functions.
E. MISC.
What COFAW does is...
1.
Calculate coax cable velocity factor wavelengths for most
common coax types, at any frequency, in wavelength multiples of
0.125. e.g. You need to cut a quarter wavelength of rg-213 for
145 MHz.
2.
Calculate Frequencies from given Wavelengths.
e.g. 2 metres is 149.896 MHz.
3.
Calculate Wavelengths from given Frequencies.
e.g. 435 MHz is 689.178 mm
4.
Calculates approximate Total Line Capacitances.
e.g. 10 coax wavelengths at 435 MHz, 5.38 mtrs of rg-8 = 458 pF
5.
Displays other pertinant data relative to each coax type.
Exact Impedance, Max Volts RMS, Dielectric type, ID & OD,
Velocity Factor, pF per foot and metre.
*NOTE* F3 is the RESET key.
=================================
Examples.
(a)
How to find a quarter wavelength of rg-213 at 145 MHz.
First select your coax type by pressing F11 or F12
until you see it.
Then enter the Frequency of desire (145) by first pressing
F6 for MHz (the multiplier) then press F1 to enter the frequency
value (145). If you try to enter a frequency value before selecting
a multiplier such as 1000's for KHz etc, You will be told to select
a multiplier first.
Now select a quarter wavelength by pressing (on the number keypad)
6 then enter, and again pressing 6 then enter.
This has now caused the coax wavelengths to increase from 0 to 0.250.
Again press the 6 then enter, it is now 0.375 wavelengths.
To decrease the wavelengths press the number keypad 4 then enter.
(b)
How to convert a wavelength of 70 cm into a frequency.
Press RESET (F3) to clear the screen of old data.
Press either F8 for metres or F9 for millimetres.
Now press F2 for Wavelength to enter the value 700 if you selected
millimetres or 0.7 if you selected metres.
You get 428.27 MHz
(c)
How to convert a frequency of 50 MHz into a wavelength.
RESET.
Press F6 for MHz then F1 to enter the frequency value 50.
You get 5.99 metres
(d)
Line capacitances will vary as you change the coax wavelengths
up and down with the 4 and 6 on the number keypad and enter.
=====================================
SCREEN LAYOUT
F key help is along the bottom line of the screen and at top.
COAX cable selection is in the middle of the screen.
Frequency and Wavelength data display is above the COAX.
COAX data is below the COAX.
Coax wavelength multiples, Coax wavelength and line capacitances
are on the lower part of the screen along with some help for
increasing and decreasing the coax wavelength multiples.
Keyboard input is at the bottom of the screen above F key help.
===============================
KEYS
F1 = Enter Frequency value
F2 = Enter Wavelength value
F3 = RESET the screen
F4 = select Hz
F5 = select KHz
F6 = select MHz
F7 = select GHz
F8 = select Metres
F9 = select Millimetres
F10 = Quit
F11 = select next coax type down
F12 = select next coax type up
F13 = You have a strange keyboard
==============================================
MISC.
Bug.
It's not really a bug, there is just no functionality to the
enter your own coax wavelength multiplier. Pressing 2 on the
number keypad and then enter will do nothing, sorry.
Your stuck with multiples of 0.125
When you quit the program it pretends you have just killed it
and it.... well...dies. I know, I couldn't help myself.
If anyone has any feedback, love to hear it. Any sort.
I hope this is useful to some folks that hate working
out the same old sums the same old long way.
There is a windows version of this software at

Cheers all, Kevin VK3UKF.
