BPQ is too old and stupid to support DAMA. You need a DAMA master to
command you station into DAMA slave mode. If you are talking to BPQ node
your using ordinary CSMA operation. There are a few nodes that will
support DAMA master, Flexnet is one. Sorry I can't remember the others,
but I think there's Linux one aswell, possibly LinuxNode?

When you get to see DAMA in operation you'll wonder how on earth packet
got to be so popular using CSMA. Still there are a few downsides to DAMA.

Possibly. Depends on PC, serial port UART, OS (DOS, Win3, Win9x, Win2k,
WinXP), what other things are happening on your PC, colour of your
underpants and how you hold your mouth when you turn the PC on :-)
