I have used PL259 and SO239 connectors and sockets for at least 50 years
without any major problems. I found a couple of commercially made patch
cords with the plugs fitted in the factory troublesome in a very few
cases, usually very chaep gear from Trick Dicky but otherwise no problem.

The Yaesu, Kenwood and Icom that I have here all use PL259s except for the
Yaesu 432 tcver which uses another type with the earth return separate
from the braid (N?).
