Hello Dem,
I made some sort of a galena crystal in my youth. I suppose I would have
been about 10 years old at the time. What I did was to melt some lead in
a ladel. (The ladel was heated with a blow lamp.) When the lead had
melted I stirred in some yellow sulphur powder which I had bought from a
hardware store. The sulphur catches light of course, and produces acrid
sulphur fumes, so this was done out of doors.
I seem to remember that it did work in my crystal set (home made of course)
but not as well as a germanium diode. You probably can't buy sulphur at a
hardware store any more. (The tiny tots would make gunpowder from it I
suppose.)
Oh, by the way Dem, the first paragraph of you bulletin was all one line of
200 characters. In fact, only one line was less than 80 characters. It word
wrapped in the middle of words in TPK, so I added some CR/LFs to your bulletin
for this message.
