I find that about 20 wpm or so is good enough for making contacts on the
hf bands.. if someone calls me at a lower speed, I adjust my sending speed
to closely match theirs. On the other hand, I find that I can copy around
25 to 30 wpm in my head, but trying to copy word for word on paper, 20 is about the best I can do.. I am in the process of trying to get a qualifyin-run
award from w1aw and from Radio Amateurs of Canada.. I would like to be able
to copy 40 wpm to get the award from RAC and I need 35 to get the one from
ARRL.. I am finding that I can get a lot down on paper @ 30 wpm, but think
that to go any faster than that, I will have to improve my typing skills.
