I have just been watching, for the nth time, a TV programme about the
development of the Earth.
Once upon a time the earth was far smaller, about the size of the Moon but
had no water.
Then there was a flood. It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. All that
water made the Earth even bigger than it is now and the solid bit cracked,
forming what are called continents (except for Europe and Asia which are
the same).
There was so much water that, eventually, after it froze in the north and
south, forming icebergs and glaciers, the Earth stabilized at the size it
is now.
This process was called plate tectonics. Well, after 1970 anyway and
people went out and got PhDs in it, saying, "This sounds like money for
old rope."
Now, according to these people, the Earth is getting hotter which will
melt all that ice and cause horrific things like global warming.
Among other things, the distance from London to New York will increase.
The only problem is, they will both be under water. Some might say this is
a good thing.
This Earth warming activity has also got a clever name. They call it 'Geo
thermal' from the Greek "Geee, it's hot!"
It just goes to show what a good thing TV can be nowadays. If we had had
Freeview when I was a lad, I would have passed loads of exams in Geography
(I failed), Geology,History (especially Roman footwear.) I failed History
too. The only British Monarchs I could remember when I was a kid were
Queen Elizabeth I and King Henry VIII. (6 wives anmd good at getting rid
of them).
The only drawback is, after years and years of watching him, I wish
someone could sneak into the storage room and set fire to all those films
about Hitler(born 20th April 1889, died 23 April 1945 by his own hands,
which were holding a cyanide capsule and a 9mm Luger at the time) A lot of
stuff in between which I just didn't know when I was a lad. I only knew
he only had one ball - whatever use that might be.
Some will say "there is an OFF switch" and rejoice in their cleverness and
originality. What I do most of the time is watch recordings of films which
I like e.g. I am just about to watch 'A Call to Arms' the first film made
from the Babylon 5 series, most of which I bought.
It will be the third time but, at least, I like B5.
All the best. Here's hoping you don't live near New York, New Jersey,
London or kent. CUL Ian @ 150m asl.
