Hi David and readers,

Now that's a bit better "CB scrapped" altogether. (;->) Hey guy, you're
getting like VK5QX and giving the Elder Statesman some stiff competition
in the verbosity department. (;->)

Like the director said, "Can the dialog and cut to the chase." There are
really two points in that whole mess that have any social or political
import, numbers on the books and that cesspit as you called it.
(Rightfully so I might add.)

As far as the stats go, the record lies in the number of current
licenses, not the number of operators which is unknown. It just as well
can be that those licensed early on have found no regulation or
enforcement so having no need to renew the licenses have let them lapse.
Let's just say for the sake of arguement that the number of operators
hasn't changed while licenses lapsed giving rise to the false impression
that the number of operators has declined. That's the fatal flaw in
statistics, no need to complicate things with trying to keep track of the
actual rise and fall of the number of CBers being active. The bottom line
of course is that in the UK as well as everywere else including the US
where it started CB like any fad took off at the start only to fall flat.

As for the cesspool effect, it took a decade and a half of good and
proper CBing before the cesspool overcame it in the US. Yes, we had that
big a lead on you since 11M was taken from Amateurs and reasigned to
Citizens Band, but after initial protest it was no great loss. The 5W
power limit didn't prevent them from inheriting our TVI problems for one
thing and in fact when CB became popular with CBers it became very
UNpopular with their neighbors! Considering the sheer numbers I rather
think that Amateurs can't even conceive of the problems that CB caused.
Now one may suppose this may have rubbed off on us Hams since nowadays
anyone with a queer looking antenna is suspect, even scanner antennas
since I ran into that one myself at a time when I had no transmitting
equipment.

Oh, I could go on but fitting 40 odd years of radio experience into one
bull would make me the champion clog of all time. Then too I don't want
to compete with you blokes so bye for now and "Happy CBing". (;->)
