Nah! I was referring to the GROSS weight of the truck, dog, load, fuel,
sundries AND me! It is legal @ 50 Tonnes and I did a (very) rough
conversion. I say very rough because I am not sure what the conversion
is to Imperial Lbs these days, nor to the American Lbs (which are unique
or peculiar to that part of the world. Lord knows what Nth America does
with their weights these days! They've never conformed in the past so I
don't suppose they will these days!!!!!!!!!

past, nor in antiquity. The trucks I have driven have varied from
"normal" semis, to dangerous goods, to flat tops, livestock cartage, quad
dogs, b-doubles, road trains and most anything else you might imagine. I
have done so (driven trucks professionally) for approaching 30 years,
uninterrupted.
During that period of time, although it may have been last century, I
travelled more than 3 or 4 million Kms whilst operating mobile on HF -
including the 40 & 80 Metre bands (where Cat C15's offend with their
noise). I am sure there are many that can attest to the fact that I could
be heard all over the joint, both locally and overseas.
The point I am making is that I am NOT unitiated in solving the problems
of operating HF, especially on the 75 Mx, 80 Mx 40 Mx and 30 Mx bands. I
think I am one of very few mobiles that has worked mainland USA from a
mobile on the DX window - from Australia, that is. It is no big deal -
you simply have to be in the right place at the right time.
Solving Cat C15 Crud is an entirely different kettle of fish - hence my
requests on here. I had a few ideas of my own BUT, like anyone willing
to learn, I believe STRONGLY is requesting, listening to and, where
appropriate, heading advice given.
It is quite curious that we have a hobby that is ALL about technology AND
communication, with so many intelligent people with enquiring minds
within the hobby, yet some of the responses have been ..... difficult to
consider as being helpful.
I might add that Ray (TV) and I have discussed Cat noise on the phone and
he has been helpful as is his usual manner.
Given that we MAY have ascertained that enclosing the feeder line or coax
inside soft copper tubing, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions
for alternative products that I could use to sheild the cable. To my way
of thinking, soft copper tubing would be both expensive and a mongrel to
work with, given that it needs to be bent in all sorts of directions to
route cabling FROM inside the cab of a brand new truck TO a bullbar,
alongside the chassis rails.
I am thinking that (excuse the colloquialism) donkey tubing ** may be the
go. I am just not sure that said flexi tubing will work as well to
sheild as would the copper tube. Any ideas as to where I could source
said flexible tubing in Oz? Additionally, Bill seems to think that half
the job was as a result of using RG213. Again, cost isn't such a
problem, but RG213 would be awkward to route, so all you techo's out
there that work with radio installs for a living, what has the best
sheilding amongst the thinner 50 Ohm cables available in Oz.
Since I do an install about once every 5 years (the life of a truck), I
am not as well versed as those working in the field on a daily basis -
certainly in terms of sourcing the most appropriate materials for this
particular job.
I await with baited breath for the responses. I expect to receive baits
in return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
