Hello, and thanks for reading this.

I wonder if you have experience of Kantronics tnc's? And know a fair bit about
BPQ? And are aware of the functions of the various pins of the RS232 port?
Maybe you can help me...

My tnc, a Kantronics KPC9612, has a "K-Net" chip fitted, which enables it to
run as a (BPQ-compatible) NET/ROM node. I want to link it to a PC running BPQ
(for reasons I won't bore you with).

When I link them together, I am able to get each to hear the other, but I cannot
get the tnc to respond to the PC's commands.

I am confident there is no problem with the settings or the functioning of the
tnc. I also know the K-Net chip is correctly set up, and its NET/ROM facility
is fine. The problem may lie in two areas, and I would value your comments on
both, if you are able.

The main area of uncertainty is the function of the RTS/DTR/DSR lines.

The Kantronics tnc appears to differ from other TNC2 standards, in that it
doesn't use DTR (D25 pin 20), preferring to use RTS (D25 pin 4). The manual
therefore suggests linking pins 4 and 20 for programs requiring DTR. I believe
BPQ does require this, but I've linked 4 & 20 to no avail.

The Kantronics manual also suggests that some programmes need you to isolate
DTR/DSR (by cutting the metalized trace between the two pads of J19 in the
9612). Do you think BPQ would require this? I'm reluctant to do any internal
butchery unless really necessary.

I have also been told the PC's com port will need to have DTR and DSR linked.
This seems to conflict with the above, however, and in any case, I've also
tried this without any success. Can you confirm the need for such a link?

Finally there is an issue with BPQCFG.TXT.

Clearly the Type will be ASYNC, and Protocol will be NETROM. But I believe
there may be a need to put FULLDUP to 1. Can you comment on (or confirm) this?
And are there any other parameters I should bear in mind?

I shall be grateful for - and will respond personally to - any helpful messages.
Many thanks in advance.
