Study bpq??
Maybe ten years ago it would have been of interest but not now, I'm no packet
radio nostalgic!

I don't use windows for packet and I don't use bpq!
Some new creation of yours?

>It is not BPQ, nor is it NET/ROM.
>It is simple, and interoperates with both BPQ and NET/ROM.
I have looked at it and got the impression that it doesn't make anyone
get rid of the net/rom routing!
Isn't it a packet radio to mail and news gateway allowing you to use
internet software for mail reading using bpq as packet driver?
But it is probably a nice pice of software for those who likes "the colourful
clown suit for dos" and all its bells and whistles!

Are you forced to use bpq as packet driver or are there some alternatives?
I saw something about some kiss settings, can you set up a kiss link with no
other software than snos?
Does it supporot rmnc crc32 kiss then, like most other kiss drivers?

>Here it is running in Windows 98 and in DOS, both work the same.
To run nodes under windows is not of much interest here.

>But you do not know anything about this. Perhaps best not to say anything.
>Did you even try DIGI? Even simpler solution, no network parameters at all.
Do you mean an ordinary l2 digi?

>Oh, I'm sorry, certainly "FlexDigi" is much better than everything.
I don't know that realy.
But it is good, but some people prefer x-net since it shall add less overhead
data.

And of corse better than any net/rom node like bpq is it!
That to use rtt is instead of the net/rom quality based on (false) information
set up by the node operator works better should be rather simple for everyone
to unserstand.
Why do you think the old net/rom should be better than the nodes, which have
been created to get away from the problems of net/rom?
Much have happend to the packet radio routing since the days of bpq and
net/rom, but some people don't want understand that.
It is a pity!
We are still stuck here with the ancient net/rom, the worthless kiss in
all its versions and a lot of other relics from the childhood of amateur
a packet radio. And for no reason, we could have had a much better packet
network by now!

>Another silly comment. The speed of heavy calculations depends on

Have tried using the same application (linux and windows verion) on the same
computer, have used some different softwares, for example matlab, some home
made softwares.
Don't know exactly what it depends on but there are hugh differences.

But this has not much to do with windows or linux used for packet radio nodes
etc, then is it the reliabilty that is important.
And windows is not very reliable.

>Proves again my point.
Exactly what point?
When used for packet radio would that not be a major problem.

>With windows you do not have these problems.
Windows is no multi user system and there are often no servers used, like imap
servers etc to attack.
But if you don't upgrade to winsock2, and don't use any firewall is windows
rather easy to attack.
But a missconfigured linux system is dangerous, and it demands more of a user
to use linux than to use windows if he shall keep the system safe.
But on the other hand is it easier to configure linux than windows, there are
documentation avaliable etc.

I think I did, yes!

>I "guess" there are not, since I have in fact tried to find them.
>Maybe someday ... but not now.
Try freeamp!

>> But the windows installation programs is often not very good either.
>Your lack of experience is again showing.
I would not have much against lacking all my bad experinace of windows!
But I'm afraid I don't have any lack of that kind of experiance, rather teh
opposite.

I have had some problems with installation program replacing files they
should not have done!

What, just c callsign as always, no port numbers with flexnet!
Or connect via it like it was a l2 digipeater, flexnet have that interface
also.

>You tell me how to connect to some WORKING Flexnet network, I will try it,
>then maybe I believe you.
There is one in germany, but I don't think you can reach that.
It is probably the best working packet network in the world, not only
because of flexnet nodes is used.

>I find many NET/ROM networks which work very well.
I don't find any that works that well around here anyway.

>Perhaps your title on this bulletins
>says it all: "FlexDigi" ... not a real network at all, just some extended

No it is not like that.
You can do everything you can in a net/rom network and much more.

>How *do* you route NET/ROM node broadcasts
>through a FlexDigi "network"? You never did answer this.
If you can send them via a l2 digipeater can you send it via a flexnet
network.

>> And also that the packetdriver part of flexnet is much better than bpqs.

>You are confused again. I did not say that I "think" it is stable, nor did

>often as other nodes we have tried.
Another silly commenct!
So you don't think it is stable even though you have observed that?
Or is it maybe only Dave who thinks?

How long did you and Dave observe that windows system?
The other nodes must have been crap! A good rmnc/flenxet, tnc3 node etc can be
upp for years! And a good linux or dos node also for many months.
I have never managed to get windows to run more than some days without
problem.
Without the 49.7 days upgrade is that the limit if you don't use scsi.

But the major difference between an old net/rom node and a good node is not
the uptime!
