Digitize ? You mean digipeat ?

You can digipeat on every port you want if you set DIGIPEAT=1 on the PORTS
section on the port you want. Of course, it digies to the node callsign, not
to WIDE, and that may be a problem to APRS users. BPQ was not addressing the
needs of APRS when it was developed. APRS did not plan to use nodes, just
digis. It seems that APRS and nodes or BBS's are like oil and vinegar, they
shouldn't mix. Whom are you going to blame for that ?

If it helps, PORTCALL could rename the callsign the port responds to. But,
also, a bunch of nodes replying to WIDE could be a nightmare....

One of the problems of BPQ is the documentation, many preferred that John
wrote code instead of writting manuals. Please read the manual
documentation, carefully and attentively.

BPQ is not a single program, it is a suite of programs. It is an open
system. BPQAX25, NODE2BAY, BPQETHER, etc, are external programs, meant to be
run as EXTERNAL interfaces. Some external interfaces were not written by
G8BPQ.

It is not easy to set up, you must study it and plan carefully. It is
intended for node operators, people with the advocation of doing a good job
for their community, not everyone. John Wiseman possibly did not imagine how
far reaching it could get, specially when Winpack saw the light supporting
only TNC's or BPQ. BPQ was the way out to use the ubiquitous Baycom modem,
even for people that did not intend to run it as a node, and just as a
Baycom interface. But if you run BPQ, you should configure BPQ properly for
your needs, without being a hindrance to others.

Misconfiguration and insufficient knowledge of its features may be causing
some of the problems that are getting lots of complaints still nowadays.

It all depends on the hardware you have, and the goals you set. It is next to
impossible to please everyone. Some improvements may need investments and
new hardware that may not be easy to substitute quickly, even if that is
among your goals.

I no longer run BPQ since I am running Linux several months ago, but some of
my users still use it along with Winpack. BPQ did a good service here, even
when it can be a pain if it is misconfigured, keep that in mind.
