People are not reading what is in front of them.......
KISS is a means to get RX data from the TNC to the PC for further
processing, and visa versa.
However, there is no way that KISS can know what is current on the radio
frequency, ie, if there is a signal present, how many stations are
present at any given time, whether a frame has been transmitted, and so
on and so on.
KISS is an acronym for Keep It Simple Stupid, it is not a HAM only word,
it is used in all fields. It means to attack a problem as simple as
possible with the least amount of effort. Which was what was aimed for
way back when the KISS acronym was implementated in the HAM packet radio
arena.
Now, at least, some programmers are aware of the limitations, not
nessecarly bugs but limitations, of the KISS specification and are
attempting to overcome this with a different TNC<>PC protocol, namely
6PACK. Dont berate then for their insite and diffently dont berate the
eariler programmers for their efforts with applications that utilised what
was at hand at the time with KISS.
OK, some TNC's do not yet have a 6pack compatiable eprom image but then
nothing is ever fully supported in it's infancy.
Those of you that winge and complain, why not sit down and write a
program yourself!!! It is not an easy task and given that most things to
do with ham radio are "cost return negative" then I think we own a hell of
a lot more to those that have gotten off their butts and produced what we
have now!!!!!!!!!!!!
all the best
Mark
