Hello, BPQAX25 user -

For some time I have been using BPQCODE (v4.06f) with BPQAX25.EXE by
Jon Welch, G7JJF, and a TCM3105 modem on a satellite BBS here in Istanbul,
as remote sysop for TA2EM BBS.

I was not completely happy with BPQAX25.EXE because it takes a lot of
RAM (>25k) and does not buffer transmitted frames, so I have been playing
with the original AX25.ASM code by Pawel Jalocha, SR9VRC, in order to make
an assembly language version of the BPQAX25 driver that is smaller than the
.EXE version and has a transmit buffer. This is something that Jon Welch
had said he might do, if there was enough demand, in his original release
of BPQAX25.EXE. But, as far as I know, he hasn't done it so I thought I
would give it a go. I am certainly not a 'real programmer', just an amateur
hacker, so I have no idea if my version is any good to anyone else but my-
self.

If you use BPQAX25.EXE and would like to try my version (I named it
BPQBAX25.COM with the extra B in honor of the transmit buffer) you are wel-
come to it. It is what would be called a 'beta test' version, and it would
be helpful if others tried it and sent me their comments. If there is any
interest, and if some others try it on their systems and it seems to work
correctly, I'll release it as 'hamware'. For your information, my version
takes about 9800 bytes of resident RAM and also is de-installable by the
FTP driver deinstaller, TERMIN.COM. The code zipped and 7PLUS'ed is about
5100 bytes, so it should pass through the packet system okay. I did not
write a .DOC file as I assume anyone testing the code is familiar with the
originals (AX25.COM and BPQAX25.EXE) and has their documentation. My version
is (more or less) a plug-in replacement for BPQAX25.EXE.

If you have a serious interest and want to help with the testing, then
please send me a message and I'll send you the 'beta test' version of
BPQBAX25.COM for your comments.

     73 now -
