I have sent three bulletins addressed to BPQ @ WW in interest of those using
BPQAX25.COM with the BPQ switch and a Baycom modem.
One is the BPQAX25.COM docs, as it seems some entrerprising hams are using it
and lacking the docs. Hope this helps tuning params for a better setup.
Another two are the AX25.COM docs, the Baycom packet driver for NOS,
written by Pawel Jalocha, SP9VRC. It was the source for Jon Welch, G7JJF
writing BPQAX25, and I find some of the remarks and FAQ list compiled by
SP9VRC for his driver also may apply for those homebrewing their solutions.
I do agree that the best solution is to have a TNC, I run a BBS with two ports
and two KPC's using FBB and JNOS via a BPQ switch. If you learn how, you can
run SEVERAL packet programs that accept BPQ host interface, either direct or
via a dedicated BPQ driver, you have to work that out in the combios section
of bpqcfg.txt using multitasking software. I use MS-DOS 6.22 and Desqview, and
can use FBB, JNOS, BPQTERM, TSTHOST, THUNDER, SYSOPH, etc, within memory
constraints. Why so many ? Every one has its peculiarities that makes it
better than others in some aspect, and for YappC transfers, Thunder and
TSTHOST are better clients than my sysop window in FBB, which is a much better
server, and so on. FBB and JNOS are the battle horses and the others are good
helpers for the sysop.
Do what you can with your Baycom modem, but, I insist, the distributed
intelligence processing does better. May be this one be a step on the way,
until you can afford something better. Thanks to hams like G8BPQ, SP9VRC and
G7JJF we can enjoy this kind of solutions today.
Happy New Year to you all !
