Hello sysops and nodeops. I am running a FBB5.15c BBS with a BPQ 4.08 node and
it works quite OK, but I have always had the doubt about the proper
configuration for running both a BBS and a node in a optimal way, but for me
the connection to neighbooring BBS MUST BE a level 2, not a level 3
connection. If both a proper node (level three) and BBS (level two for
fwd to inmediate neighboors) connection can coexist, please enlighten me.
For me, it works the following way:
MINQUAL=192 ; MINIMUM QUALITY TO ADD TO NODES TABLE
BBSQUAL=250 ; BBS Quality relative to NODE - used to

When I set it this way both in CO2BQQ and CO2JA, it always connects BBS to BBS
for fwd at level two, which is the most efficient way. But I have a neighboor
on HF connecting at level three for fwd. I asked him to set his bpqcfg.txt as
mine, he did and level three connections stopped, and reverted to level two.
But another neighboor of him, on VHF, now is protesting because his forwarding
link on 2 meters between him and my HF neighboor now proceeds at level three.
Obviously, setup is not consistent enough among us four. I have no nodes
broadcasts, to avoid any references to my level three netrom possibilities
being propagated. My goal is BBSing, not providing nodes, even when it is
perfectly OK for keyboarding if anyone needs so.
Once I received and followed the advice to set BBSQUAL=0, but whenever I set
BBSQUAL < MINQUAL, fwd proceeds at a level three connection, which adds
overhead and slows the transaction considerably.
I am seeking to get some info from your positive experiences and advices about
the proper way to achieve my goals, which I believe are right. Of course, if I
am mistaken and you can enlighten me, your help is welcome. If you need any
other references to my BPQCFG.TXT, you are welcome if this gives any other
clues. I just put a excerpt to avoid being excessively long.
