Hello Everyone ... on this subject...again, and for those participating
last time, with some also interesting events they experienced in this
service.

Long ago in the 1960s... as CB statrted in Canada 1962, my friend at
Public School , announced he was trying his had at Ham Radio, and of
course sold his prized and much loved CB the SONAR FS23C .... sold
to someone in Oshawa , a community to the east of Toronto.

OK ... we move forward in time to the present, and guess what...he
admits to being back on CB ...oh dear... a relapse ... but no he
for whatever reason decided to get one ... and told me of the radio
he got, and ...well I told he researched before buying given his
methods.... and along with our chat, he expressed the desire to
have his SONAR back, and was checking all the online sources...etc.

I told him at one point too, I wanted one too, as well another unit
I once had, and well that is another story ... and of could he told
me about the SONARs he saw on the Internet, and well judging by
what I saw of them...he had rejected.

Moving along ... I get the final QWKmail DL from the dial-up BBS
I belonged to. Past tense... as they were folding. I see not
only ONE SONAR but 3 of them... 2 SONAR FS23 and 1 J23 the mobile
smaller version of the FS23 .... also mentioned by those in our
conference on the BBS, a SONAR FS 2340. LIGHTS popped on
at reading this and postings etc...and I learned they were
closeby.... but no way to reply...so I email the sysop....and via
twists of luck or fate... I arrive at this guy's home, and guess
what? I know him...and he knows me ... and ...the only
disappointment is "only" one SONAR left...he can not find the
other FS23... he thinks he loaned it out...and well it is
gone and I guess so is the person he loaned it to... as well
NO J23...but here is this mint FS23 ... last used in the store
in Toronto, and here at his home... and absolutely mint condition
and slap goes the ca$h ... better deal then online offerings.
<<< Also a pick of the store's stock leftover...etc...might go back >>>

I also wondered, whatever happened to the hospital radio... and that
was answered as they sent it to them...and there it was..on the shelf
a Johnson messenger 223 <tube> .... so that was an answer also.

At home, I get the SONAR checked out...and on the air...and well
when my school chum finds out... he..outta character is up there
to my place, driving his mint 96 Caddie...and just looks, and slaps
down what I paid and promised him...and know is as happy as a lark
to have his SONAR or of that era back to look at.

Funny thing too...on the way home, and in our town...at the store
I had CB'ers I knew local, saying hello...and seeing the tube offered
me more then what I paid for it... I am still getting calls and offers
and some really great advice also where some of these things are showing
up..which I hope to checkout.

REACT and other CB organizations are still doing well in our area, but
in the latest community listing of organizations, it seems the Ham Radio
clubs and whatevers have disappeared, which is rather funny.

Most nights, I am on packet keyboarding with friends in Toronto
55miles away ... oh well... I guess thats all I have for this
posting....
