Hello Rodge and all ....

I saw your posting about the Rubber Duck, but not if you
mean the one for the CB on 27mhz or another? For CB there
was a rubber or short duck-tpe by a local company here, which
had top loaded, and worked well with the Cadre 510c portable
CB radio in it's portapack. Tghe original antenna was metal
telescopic and bottom loaded and never worked as well as this
did.

The rubber duck I had for my ICOM handie, I replaced with a
AEA "Hot stick" which really lived up to it's name for getting
that extra distance. Some rubber ducks for 2m were okay
and others well they couldn't stand up to the original issued
with the radio. I am still looking for a used one :)

Maria's installation will take place, while she is on a trip
but will have a fibreglass Big Stick and a base model CB
all tested and ready to go when she gets back. I hope to
have the height of her antenna up 65ft to give her some decent
range. So ...sssh it's a secret.

I think the greatest use for the rubber duck, has to be in closeby
areas, where tree branches damage anyother antenna, other then
the old reliable stainless steel 108inch whip.....but then who
is nuts enough to think of that on a portable moving radio setup.

Some one argued about the use of a fibreglass short whip...but then
I seem to remember a friend having one on his wagon, an when in
for an oil change and grease....they popped it up on the hoist,
he forgot the antenna on the roof < 42inch > and there was a
"KRUNCH" and ...well the whip was NO MORE :( ....

Have a Great New Years Rodge and the misses .... see you again
in 2010.
