Hi Bob and all,
It just goes to show that when the door opens few pass through, they're
sleeping. Yes the recent solar activity has been causing some unusual 10
and 15M propagation, that is into areas not normally heard during a band
opening. A few days ago I heard Hawaii loud and clear for close to an
hour, just past noon. That's rare in NJ because the mid Pacific islands
are normally in a skip zone.
WAKE UP PEOPLE, YOU NEVER KNOW IF THE BAND IS OPEN UNLESS TOU TEST IT!!!
Call CQ, never know who's just sitting there listening and/or tune for
the beacons, that's what they're for. Far too many just tune around
listening, hear nothing, and assume there is no propagation, the trouble
is that's what they're ALL doing instead of transmitting. Put a signal on
the air so those tunerounders have something to hear!
Likewise Bob, no 6M activity to speak of here either, there was a bit of
auroral backscatter last week briefly, then nothing. At least there are
some "local" QSOs going on, yesterday the guy a couple miles up the coast
blew me out of the chair rather unexpectedly. (;->) The lucky beaster has
a big beam on a tower, couldn't hear who he was talking to with my dipole
barely 30' off the ground. Well, it woks just fine for DX and that's what
I'm after. Come December that just may happen, there's usually a decent
opening or two around then, some long haul DX does show itself.
He who snoozes looses, wake up and smell the DX (coffee). BTW, the rig is
parked on 50.125Mc, the calling frequency whenever I'm in the shack and
the packet MH list from my TNC tells me if there is any 2M ducting going
on, hint hint.
