Nothing to do with English grammar.
It's a scientific notation.

Is it that important?

That depends on your standards, Bob. Writing 28 mHz is not a good look.
That aside, you have admitted operating out of band :-)

For quite a while, a major amateur radio dealer in ZL used to advertise their
products in mHz. Needles to say, I refused to buy from a crowd that couldn't
even specify their radio gear correctly. In the USA, they would have been taken
to the cleaners for misleading advertising.
