Just recently I have been thinking if I could benefit from automated
reception of the solar data sent by DK0WCY on 10.144Mhz.

I have yet to hear the 80m transmissions however during the daytime I can
always hear the 10Mhz transmission which then fades at local sunset.

I use the data to feed the Miniprop propagation prediction software, it's
DOS and it also means I can run it on my Psion Revo PDA.

Naturally I use the cw transmission easily enough and decode that in my
head.

However there appears to be tests running with rtty and psk31 to send
solar data at regular intervals which I thought I could try and see how
things go.

The PSK31 seems quite reliable and below are 3 receiving sessions I did
today. You can get an idea of the data sent from the beacon and you can
also see how a small amount of corruption occurs even on PSK31.

NOTE: I have left all errors in and this is exactly how it was received
at my QTH. I use the Digipan software to decode it and had a 59 signal
with QSB.

I tried using my Hamcomm program (DOS version) and serial interface
but that next to useless, it hardly decoded anything despite careful
tuning and setup of Hamcomm.

RTTY fared a little better but averaged 50% corruption, something I've
observed for years, rtty is pretty UNrobust !

Me..? Well I think I'll stick to just decoding the cw data from it in my
head, far easier :-)
