Next BPL step in VK
-------------------
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has now gathered evidence
on which to move towards regulating Broadband over Powerlines.

A possible course of action is to call a meeting of key stakeholders as
part of a review of the current BPL trial guidelines and seek a consensus
approach.

The ACMA is faced with a political reality that broadband enabling
technology, of any type, has strong support among the legislators. It
also has to manage radio interference, with BPL proponents continuing to
deny it's a problem.

BPL proponents on one hand need to make concessions to accommodate the
concerns of radio spectrum users, so an acceptable regulatory framework
can be developed.

The view within ACMA is that the testing phase for BPL in Australia,
conducted in New South Wales, Tasmania and possible soon to include
another state, is nearing an end.

The technology needs certainty of regulatory environment upon which
investment decisions can be made and commercial deployment can occur.
Equally in a nation with heavy use of the spectrum those using radio
communications deserve certainty too.
