Stop radar intruders on HF
--------------------------
Asia is experiencing QRM from new sea surface radars particularly on the 40
metre band with these types of signals also heard in pacific rim countries
such as VK, ZL and W-land.
Complaints are starting to flood in about the S9 very wide band pulse
signals that are causing harmful interference to short radio communications.
The Wireless Institute of Australia has submitted details of the intrusions
including beam headings and sound files to the Australian Communications
Authority which has begun its own investigation.
Some other International Amateur Radio Union Region 3 member societies are
already reporting complaints about the pulse signals being received through
their intruder watch monitors.
While it appears the source of interference is new sea surface wave radars,
the installation in the Torres Strait of Northern Australia has been
engineered not to operate on the amateur bands.
If that system can avoid the ham bands why can’t others? Perhaps they will
only do so in response to complaints through the IARU Monitoring Service
(Intruder Watch).
The more reports to your local IARUMS the better. It has also been
suggested that when interference is experienced that it be logged on DX
spotting sites by the word "RADAR".
