Visitors to VK
--------------
Australia's visitor and reciprocal licensing

Most overseas radio amateurs can operate under VK callsign while on a
short-term holiday or business trip in Australia.

Conditions under which this can happen are set by the Australian
Communications Authority (ACA).

Australia is in the CEPT common licence system and instantly recognises
CEPT licences, plus it has reciprocal licensing agreements with other
countries including the United States.

A change to full recognition of the recommendations attached to the CEPT
licence system is due to occur later in 2005 with visitors to be allowed to
use their home callsign slash VK* (/VK*) with "*" being the call area
numeral.

Until that change occurs, visiting radio amateurs must apply for and obtain
an Australian licence and VK callsign.
