Further to the discussion of a few weeks ago, I today visited the local
library and located RENNIKS GUIDE.I hhad thought that we had a halfcrown
coin ,but I was wrong. 1937 -1938 there was a crown coin, silver 925 fine ,
it weighed 436.3 grams and was 38,5 mm diameter_I think someone called it a
cartwheel and he wasn't far wrong for sure.
The two shilling coin from 1911-1936 was marked FLORIN and TWO SHILLINGS.
from 1938-1964 it was FLORIN only. Prior to 1946 it was silver 925 fine
but from 1946 on it was 50% silver (500 fine ). The original circular 50c
coin was 80% silver.The 1927 (Canberra) and 1034-1935 (Victoria ) florins
also only had FLORIN.They were special commemorative issues as was the
1951 (Jubilee) issue. I hope this is of some interest especially to the
GBR/UK people who expressed considerable interest a few weeks ago.
Take care, kindest regards. DE
