NZ decimalised on 10th July 1967, as has been said the half crown was
dropped then and since then we have seen the demise of 1 & 2 cent coins
and 1 & 2 Dollar paper money.
Of the Old coinage which in NZ started out to be British coinage how many
remember the half sovereign or the mite. I stand to be corrected but I
think the half sovereign would have been something like 10/6d, however not
sure of the values there. But, that other strange little coin the mite
well it was 1/8 of a penny i.e. half a farthing. I believe they were in
circulation very early in NZ and were phased out prior to the farthings
demise. Can anybody enlarge on these coins or the values of sovereigns
etc.
Nowadays the special coinage here is in the form of $5.00 coins rather
than crowns and are issued for special occasions.
