David, I am not at all sure what you are on about. I have not seen these
bulls with four and six letter words here, and would not for one moment
support such action. I do not agree with being picky picky on spelling or
grammatical errors either. The best of us can make a typo. I do it myself
at times, but in my defence I am not a trained typist. However I was a
teacher and I can spell.
As for the use of four letter words in VK on radio, I have heard very
little if anything of such and I have been here on HF and VHF for 48
years. What's more I believe that any VK using such, regulations or not,
would soon find himself under severe criticism from his peers if not from
the authorities. I have had a lot of contact with the authorities here in
my time, and I believe it is a case that if you give the sleeping dog a
poke he will bite. I would certainly challenge the statement that "VKs can
say more or less what they want, to whom they want, using as many four
letter words as they like." Such may not be written in the amateur regs
but there are other common laws about publishing obscenity under which
action could be taken.
I think the "joke" bull you speak of was under the heading HUMOUR and
was put out by the man who while living here with a VK callsign still
claims to be a Pom. He has given us a bad time for years. I thought the
bull was funny, but I suspect his motive was not an intention to be funny.
In the light of your second bulletin today, I hope these matters are all
laid to rest. I live here and you can bet your boots I will fiercely
defend my country against any real or implied criticism. BTW I had nothing
to do with the action to which you referred.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE
