                         ANNOUNCEMENT

ARRL/VEC TEST SESSION; US FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS
          COMMISSION (FCC) AMATEUR RADIO EXAMINATIONS

EVENT: Examinations for U.S. FCC amateur radio licenses.

SPONSOR: by the Eifel VE Team.

EXAMINATION DATE: Saturday, 24 April 1999

TIME: 1200 hrs local; however, please be 30 minutes early.

LOCATION: Bitburg, Germany (JN39GX).

We plan to conduct our test session in building 2002
in "Eifel West" (American US military housing area), also
known as the old French Caserne. The entrance to "Eifel
West" is directly across the street from the McDonalds
restaurant, Bitburg.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to decisions not within
our control, it is sometimes necessary for us to relocate
our testing to another building or even another area
at the last minute. PLEASE CONTACT US NO LATER THAN TWO
OR THREE DAYS PRIOR TO THE ACTUAL TEST SESSION TO CONFIRM
WHERE THE TEST LOCATION WILL BE.

GENERAL:

     1. Retesting of failed elements the same day is not
normally offered at our test sessions. We may make an
exception to this policy only if time permits.

     2. Make sure you have a U.S. mailing address; you must
have use of a U.S. mailing address in order for your FCC
paperwork to be processed. The FCC will not mail your
license to a non-US address!

     3. Visit our VE team website:

           http://users.eifelnet.de/wolff/vec.htm

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO BRING:

     1. a legal photo Identification (i.e. driver's license
or passport)

     2. the original and a copy of any current FCC license
or CSCE. We do not have copying services available.

     3. The test fee of $6.45 (we will accept the equivalent
amount in DM as a convenience to you).

     4. PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION IS REQUIRED: Because of
the increased international political tensions, extra
security measures have been implemented in our area. This
will directly affect some participants to our ARRL/VE test
sessions.

WARNING: If you do not have a valid US military
identification card (ID), you MUST bring your
passport (Germans can use their "Ausweis") so
that we may obtain permission to escort you onto
the military installation. No other form of
          identification is acceptable. NON-ID CARD
HOLDERS WHO FAIL TO BRING THEIR PASSPORT WILL
BE DENIED ENTRY TO THE TEST SESSION. Additionally,
your personal vehicle is subject to inspection by
Military Police. Military police will not make
any exceptions. These extra measures are
unavoidable and are effective until further notice.
We ask for your understanding and patience.
