I recently bought an Iomega Zip Drive from Argo Interactive, who seem to be
a helpful firm, together with the official Acorn driver software.

It works fine; I backed up the RISCOS part of my hard disc, about 50 Mb,
uncompressed in about 50 minutes. On another disc I have started to hold
data files, e.g. my Letters directory, to relieve hard disc space.

A word of warning. In trying to call Fireworkz files, I get the error
message "Can't find file DOSMap". Once !Zip is on the icon bar you can't
load Fireworkz.

Reason is that within the !Zip directory is a new DOSFS module (dated 06
Sept 1995) which is standalone. Previous version on my machine is 0.43 (26
Apr 1992), commands provided DOSMap and CopyBoot. Argo have taken this up
with Acorn so I hope to get a modified driver; meanwhile I have REMed out
the line in the !Run file which loads the new module.

However, so far I have failed to get the machine to load the drivers for
DOS/Windows 3.1. Starting from scratch, with the screen at the DOS prompt,
in each case the set up program reaches "Looking for drive letter for your
Zip Drive" or words to that effect (it's supposed to check drives and
allocate a letter) and then the machine hangs up. Only way out is to reset.

I tried all one day to ring Aleph One; engaged always - off hook? So I
wrote, and so far no reply. So I ask - has anyone used the Zip Drive
successfully with an Aleph One board?

My set up is A5000 (25 MHz) 120Mb HD, 4Mb RAM, Aleph One 486 50MHz board
with maths co-processor and 4 Mb RAM, HD partitioned "Drive C" 32Mb with
MSDOS 5 and most of the stuff I use and "Drive D" 20Mb with Windows 3.11 and
very little else (not much room!).

Any help gratefully received!
