Hi all. Over the last few years I have put out many requests for Acorn
technical info via packet. In nearly all cases I have found the answers to
these questions, either from the packet network or from friends in "high
places". There is however, one notable exception to this:-
I STILL need to find a way to update the soft-copy of the real time clock
from the hardware real time clock! Some of my software has to disable IRQ
interrupts for long periods and during this time the soft copy of the RTC
loses time. The error is restored at the next reset (CTRL+BREAK or power-up)
but I would LOVE to be able to restore it in software. You'll have to take
it from me that my software absolutely MUST disable IRQs! Dirty programming
I know, but I need the full power of the ARM!
On OS 2 (remember that?) it was possible to read the RTC hardware directly,
the data could then be used to update the soft copy. However, for some
strange reason, the same call (OS_Word 14,1) on OS 3.10 or 3.50 returns only
the date and time from the soft copy. There MUST be a way of updating the
soft copy from the hardware RTC, as this what Risc OS does on power-up. The
question is "How do they do that?"
Maybe one of you Internet surfers out there could pass this bulletin on to
one the appropriate "news groups", as I'm sure someone, somewhere must know
the answer to this. Any help MUCH appreciated!
