I read the bulletin from 2E1DML with interest. I don't have a RISC PC,
but I do have the Aleph One 486 card in my A5000.
I'm not really interested in games; my only reason for buying the PC
card is to be able to run software not available on the Acorn platform,
such as the excellent ELNEC antenna modelling program. But at the LIVE
94 event in London last year I visited the Microsoft stand and bought
Flight Simulator, plus the New York and Paris scenarios.
Alas, I found the same problem as Mathew. The picture only covered a
quarter or third of the screen.
I spoke to Aleph One. They had checked the previous version of Flight
Sim., but obviously something had changed in the latest version. They
did not have the effort available to sort out problems with "games"
which is something to do with the interface with the Acorn video system.
In fairness to Aleph One, they did offer to buy the card back if games
were important to me. They are not, and the card performs superbly with
all the other serious software which I need to run, so it stays.
But I thought perhaps a word of warning to those who do like to run
games might be appropriate.
