I can only speculate on what happened, as I am not physically on the race
course this year. In fact, this is the first look I've had at things since
Thursday evening. I sent some equipment and instructions, but either it
was not installed properly OR (more likely) they were overwhelmed with
other issues and did not get to set up all of the equipment for the
alternate frequency. I know they were not able to "replace" me this year,
so everyone was extra busy. It's unfortunate that things turned out as
they did. Keep watching - it looks like they now have the back half of the
race course setup and I'm starting to see teams at http://tracking.b2v.org

Race started at 11:30 AM PDT.

Phil,
I am getting "Error opening data stream:b2vtracking.aprsca.net" Then it
tries again and gives me the error again.

I thought the UIDIGI ROM only works in a TAPR-2 clone TNC.

Maybe you meant you are using the 9612 as regular APRS digi?

In that case, be sure to put its 9600 baud second port on a second
frequency (maybe 144.99) or maybe even on UHF. Then at least in the area
of that digi, locals could run their D7 and D700's at 9600 baud on that
frequency and have collision free entry into the network...

THis is because the dual-port 9612 will merge the streams together on
144.39 without conflict.

Subject: [aprssig] Weather questions

I am discovering that I need to download more shape files. My install of
UI-View32 has some shape files, mostly for the areas around my home, but
now that I'm on the road, I guess I should try installing shape files for
places where I go most.

Some years ago, in the time before shape files, I combined data for the
entire USA, put it in one zip file, and it was published on various APRS
sites. This allowed anybody to get warnings for the whole USA in one file,
and it was simpler than downloading multiple files. Is anything like this
available anywhere?

Next question -- what would be the best way to insure I get weather
advisories, watches, and warnings for the area where I'm currently at?
Maybe a filter setting of t/nw or something?

Thanks,
Earl

http://www.aprs-is.net/wx/ might answer most of your questions.

t/n is all that is needed to get all NWS messages and objects. t/w will
pass all weather stations.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Pete.

Am I reading this right? You no longer require HUNDREDS of files to show
warnings, etc., all over the country on the map?

Are you referring to receiving the actual bulletins, or to downloading
the shapefiles required to display them?

If the latter, I was not aware that there was any way to download less
than all of them. The current shapefile download links are on my
website at:
