Yes, apparently he entered his posit wrong as you point out. APRSdos
checks that the right number of characters are entered, but apprarently
doesnt check to make sure the tenths digid is numeric. If you have VA3VA's
email, simply tell him to enter his posit as 4220.4 N and as 08256.3 W and
he should show up fine.

Thanks!

Oh, and you migth remind him that the lastest APRSdos is versio 876 I
think. His version is several years old appraently...

I uploaded my first packets to both second.aprs.net and third.aprs.net. I
used both TTERMPRO and HyperTerminal. I was also able to connect using Net
Cat but Net Cat doesn't have a file transmit so I couldn't upload with
NetCat.

Thanks for the info. I don't have his email address but I'll rely your
reply back to the UI-View list where the original poster can pass along the
info about the position and also about version 876 to VA3VA. It was kind of
a "why doesn't this position report display in UI-View?" message.

What was the callsign-SSID? Was it N9TN?
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=N9TN

Position of N9TN --- 1595.4 miles northwest of Halawa Heights, HI ---
Report received 4 hours 52 minutes 53 seconds ago
Raw packet: N9TN>APW275,TCPXX*,qAX,CORE-2:=3349.13N/18000.00W-
PHG0000/WinAPRS 2.7.5 -275-<630>

It was gated with an non-validated connection, apparently using WinAPRS
2.7.5. How is the weather just NW if Midway? Is that a house-boat? hi

Keith

It was N9TN-1

The packet you saw was via WinAPRS and N9TN

Depending on density of air, the deployment of the parachute might create
an "impact", so be careful about how this happens. I'd say turn it off
based on altitude changes. If the altitude doesn't change by more than XXX
feet between reports, you are down on the ground.

Yeah, ask the Mars Polar Lander team about impact detection. =]

It looks like you had success...

www.findu.com/cgi-bin/find.cgi?call=N9TN-1&units=metric
www.findu.com/cgi-bin/raw.cgi?call=N9TN-1&time=1

and no errors showing, which is good...
www.findu.com/cgi-bin/errorlist.cgi?call=N9TN-1&last=24

Have you come up with an automated procedure to translate the Orbcomm data
and gate it or is there still a manual process there? How often does the
Orbcomm data get emailed to you? Does the owner of each sailboat have to
purchase the equipment or is Orbcomm donating it for the race? I don't
recall if this is on one vessel or if it's going to be on every sailboat in
the race.

Oops... I nearly replied direct to you instead of the list. I received two
copies of your message. It looks like you CCd a reply direct to me as well
as the list.
