That sounds familiar. We ended up changing our repeater beacon to be a
third party object because the obvious ITEM didn't work.
It's possible that Bob told me that ITEM is being obsoleted during that
discussion, but I'm not sure...

LORAN continues to evolve - take a look at http://www.loran.org. And
check this out:
--- Forwarded message:---
The U.S. Federal Register comment period ends February 7, 2007. Don't put
it off! The ILA is submitting a variety of materials, with the help of some
Board members, but we still need for every ILA member to submit.
Just a one-paragraph note is all that's needed, clearly stating your
position on the issue of completing eLoran and continuing the Loran service
as a partner with GPS to protect the Critical Infrastructure.
The submission process is easy;
- go to http://dms.dot.gov
- hit "simple search"
- enter docket number 24685 and hit "search"
- hit "submit" and follow the dots.

The "EYEBALL" symbol was designed for this kind of eye-catching special
purpose. It is supposed to be a large attention getting SYMBOL to indicate
something that was worthy of immediate attention. A real EYE catcher. In
the original APRS, this symbol was about 4 times larger than all other
symbols to make sure it was easy to spot.
For follow-on APRS systems that use fixed sized ICONs instead of symbols,
I'm not sure how well it stands out. Maybe we need a better symbol more
appropriate for NETS. In that case, I think I would suggest the NTS symbol
(even if it is not an NTS net). It is a "/N" symbol.
Thanks. I'll add that to my notes.
