Richard,

The St. Louis area is refusing to come up to the current standards and
insists on using the old "Relay,Wide" format. The Boeing Club's Digi (WØMA)
is now the only one that is up to the new paradigm. I just took mine off
the air to move it to a better site.

There are plenty of APRS digipeaters that were setup with mostly commercial
gear and the owners haven't had a need to go to the site in years. Someday
something will break or they will finally take a vacation to the mountains
and they may reprogram their digis. I suspect that some digi owners have
moved on to other interests, and don't even know that the paradigm has
changed.

How do you get a register that may be say 234 in value, to be sent as ASCII
as "2" "3" and "4"

Do you process by 100, 10 and 1's ?

Yep... unpacked BCD conversion.

Very easy.

Yes, divide by 100, keep remainder, divide by 10, and keep remainder...

KC0RNP Digi at my house is set to New Format but I may be one of the only
ones that see a need to change!

Wonder why St. Louis will not change?

And note that the hexadecimal value for "0" is 0x30, for "1" is 0x31,
etc. This makes the job easier than it would otherwise be.

That could be a task for an add-on-writer; like in UI-Weather, which lets
the user enter another call and another path in UI-View's WX setup than in
UI-View's station setup.

Jan,
Hey, that's a great idea. It should be easy to be an add on to UIview,
since it is a simple stand-alone process and doesn't even really need
access to any other stuff to work except the TX side of the TNC or AXW.

Good thinking!

Hello Rick,

The Boeing Club digi may be setup to respond to the new paradigm settings,
but it has issues with its beacons.

It is always on the findu.com error page here (W0MA):
http://findu.com/cgi-bin/errors.cgi

It looks like the BTEXT is performing the location information for the digi
itself. And the LT 1 - 4 texts are incorrect, causing it to show up on
findu.com's error pages.

I emailed the club email address a couple of times about this but I never
heard any reply.

There is also a St Louis Area APRS Yahoo Group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stlaprs/

Hope this helps,
Richard

I'll send a copy of that part of the communication to the UI-View group.

My earthquake plugin is been executed from UI-Views scheduler and sending
objects via local aprsserver (have to enable in digi setup)

Works ok but someone probably can make a better plugin as this is a "hack"
that doesn't use ActiveX and only works if ui-view is run as a digipeater.
But you can alter what it should digi on so any alias should work so that
you dont digipeat other stations like WIDEn-N if you are not suposed to run
a digi.

The program then needs some parameters like: callsign, path and symbol
data.
