Guess I can answer my own question. Looking at Julien's earlier message, I
take it that he's using it in packet mode and the software programs he
mentioned are "running the show" in which case the D700 is really a radio
that happens to have a TNC built into it.

I'm sure there are some D700 users on the list that would be interested in
hearing more about the settings you are using to accomplish what you have
described. Thanks for sharing it with everyone on the list!

Of course the kenwood radio aprs radio all have built in tnc
,700a,d7,ts2000,all have built in tnc for the tm-d700a you need to assign a
call sign to the tnc mail box page 46 MYMCALL,even though the 700a is in
packet pkt mode it will still talk to the tm-d700a in aprs mode, the tnc
have to be set up.
you can do tnc console chat radio to radio regardless of what mode you in
and what software you are using once it got a terminal point.

I think you left out the cross band repeat and a bunch of other things
it wiil do.
The D-700/D-7 is the best combo ever built.
I do not use the VHF/UHF on my FT-817/857.
No really needed on a HF rig any way.

Keith it is because of following the usa naval academy Bob and his work we
have achieve what we have done with this radios or in fact kenwood aprs
radio, his work have been the driving force,in fact we have our own kenwood
radio aprs lab, this why we can now talk to the world.
let us put these radios to full use

Can someone suggest why this packet does not show up on the "Weather" tab
of aprs+SA? ver 2.24
Findu shows the BP graph for this station (which is the only sensor working
at the moment).
Thanks.

My program uses ShipPlotter and relays the trafic to UI-View.
Next version is going to have filters and posibilities to connect
directly to an aprs server.
ShipPlotter is storing MMSI,callsign and names in a "library" so that
theres no need to do this job every time.

This is no really a problem if you configure i.e UI-View to limit the
amount of traffic. But yes you should check before and after to see if you
are making to much traffic.
The ships is sendig lots of updates when turning etc. But the
digi-functions in UI-View you can limiting this.
Setting it to i.e 20-40sec then redusing it a lot. Its working just like
TinyTrack smart beaconing. lotz of traffic in curves etc.

SAR, spesial event or maybe filter out just som nice ships and not
everything.
Hobby, just4fun, developing things and combine with the HAM hobby and
another thing is that you can see everything in the same program.
If you disable the digipeat function then only you can see it on your
computer.
And yes there is some "issue" that goverment do not want this
information on internet etc because its supposed to be antiterror not to
show the positions... crap but thats politics. For terorists doesnt need
either aprs, internet or shippositions to make unwanted things to happen.

AIS is secret???
I have an AIS receiver on my boat, along with VHF and HF ham gear. The
AIS targets display on SeaClear, my marine navigation program. Since I
already have all the pieces, I thought it might be fun to see what could
be done with it. I wonder what the timeline between APRS and AIS is? I
can;t help but think AIS was at least partly inspired by APRS. I also
wonder if the TMD-700A could be an AIS transceiver. I know it wouldn't
be legal, but it would seem to be able to do 9600 baud.

PLEASE, PLEASE, Please folks.
Top or bottom post, I don't care. However, it will be much appreciated if
you PLEASE trim *ALL* the garbage out of messages. (top or bottom posting,
also won't be so dramatically different, then) Leave *ONLY* the relavant
part. It is easier to read for all cases and much easier for us who do
digest reading once a week or so.
I originally went to digest mode to cut down on email, but I am now
thinking that individual messages allows culling at the Subject line level
easier than in digest mode...
APRS has rules for reasons and netiquette is the same concept.
Please.
Thanks es 73, Steve, K9DCI
