Hello Julien,

This is very interesting! What TNC commands are you using to get the
D700 into this mode?

Don't worry about the negative comments; most of those were directed to the
folks who responded to your message and not to you.

The thing that really interests me is that you appear to be using the D700
for APRS _and_ displaying the APRS data on a computer at the same time. Is
this true? If so, _please_ share how you did it, as it's something I have
wanted to do for years.

I see TRAFFIC packets alot in MI and wondered who was using APRS for what
in that instance.

Hi Chris,

It looks like it's coming in via the APRS servers on the internet. I
searched some of the websites listed in the object and it looks like they
are commercial vessels that are docked. They are objects so I'm not sure
if you can track them or if they even move.

Since the objects owner (originator) is VA3ROM-1, you might want to try to
contact VA3ROM directly if you don't get an answer here as not everyone
subscribes to this SIG.

TRAFFIC objects are auto-generated objects created by a couple of
applications so, as with other objects, the source station can be found in
the source address field of the AX.25 packet.

Hams in Göteborg and Bergen have succeeded in getting data from the AIS
system and transforming them into object, moving with the vessels, and
showing ship's name if it is 9 characters or less, and their call sign if
the name is longer. This might be something similar?
