Need some suggestion for aerial mount.

Aerial will come down for a bit and then bend back - parrallel to belly.

Steve,

Google now forces V2 even for V1 calls and your map works fine for North
America. For other regions, when you call the satellite map, the script
doesn't work properly (e.g. no symbol), because

map.setMapType(_SATELLITE_TYPE );
throws an error.
If you just replace _SATELLITE_TYPE by G_SATELLITE_TYPE it
will all work:

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Actually, I don't need that
any longer, as v2 has maps for most of the world, I can leave the default
the same for everyone.

While I had the electronic pencil out I made the map larger, went to the
controls which include the zoom bar, and added the scale control. The only
thing I'm not sure of is the size, let me know if it is too big for your
displays now.

Unless the airplane is experimental you will have issues with legally
making your own antenna. Antennas for airplanes that cover 2 meters are
commercially available for $. Cheaper is to get a "bent wire" VHF comm
antenna and trim it down some for 2 meters. 2 seconds work with a hacksaw :)
I get out quite well with a rubber duck suction-cupped to a window.

In that case try an NMO mount with a quarter wave antenna. You can bend
it back to whatever angle you want. If the belly is not aluminum you
will need a metal backing plate for both the ground plane and mechanical
strength. If the airplane is fiberglass don't bother with any of this.
Make a 2 meter dipole and just fasten it inside the airplane somewhere.

Hi Andrew

I built an antenna mount to clamp to the wing strut of a Cessna 172. You
can see it at http://sarl.ca/ve5aa/CASARA/Casara.htm. It's partially
blocked by the airplane body and doesn't have much of a ground plane but it
was still received by our digi over 100 km away.
