You said :"...Collisions would ensue because many TNCs will not wait and
listen if digipeating an alias, but they will if decrementing a WIDEn-N."

I have never seen this...however all the area digipeaters are TNC2's with
the UIDIGI-ROM firmware. Perhaps this code does not have that issue?
Could it be unique to the KPC3's? I wonder if this occurs in UIView32
digipeaters?

I believe that difference only relates to how the text is displayed (laid
out) when received on the little window of the Kenwood APRS radios, the
TH-D7 HT and TM-D700 mobile. Sort of like a "Tiny Web Page":

You might also look at the details for the CGIs you use on the findu pages.
I think the Weather CGI requires a forward slash "/" at the end of the
weather data to work, you have to add it into your comment section. (I
found that if you don't, findu will not recognize the WX data, just see it
all as comments) It really depends on which findu CGIs you use.

Subject: [aprssig] New EU final summary...?

My final summary of New-N for Europe:

OK,
I have now re-worded the original New-EU Paradigm web page to best reflect
the present conditions in the system and best explaination for it. I will
leave it stand this way, and hope that it takes root and becomes the
standard. Here is the New-EU Paradigm recommendation.

http://www.ew.usna.edu/~bruninga/aprs/new-eu-paradigm.txt

Hope this helps.
Again, Uiview -users- who already use the PATH of WIDEn-N do not
have to change anything.

But those few Uiview users that are also DIGIS in Europe do need to make
some changes and those changes are found elsewhere. Also I have heard that
there are TOO MANY home stations acting as DIGI's and that is another
problem that needs to be solved, but is beyond the scope of this email.

Hope this helps better explain things.

Good luck

Bob, this new new-eu-paradigm.txt looks fine to me except for on one line,
only one letter (apparently a typo).

In new-eu-paradigm.txt you wrote:

New-EU Paradigm DIGIPEATER RULES:
3) For NETWORK reliability, All digipeaters should:
a) Put their PHG in their position comment
b) Put "Wn,SSn" also to show the largest N they support
c) The SSn shows what regional or sectional SSn-N they support
d) Use the DIGI syumbol with "E" overlay.
d) -or- use the "1" overlay for WIDE1-1 ONLY home digis.

But I think and hope you meant to use an "S" overlay on the digi star map
symbol for those "Wn,SSn" digis. And not a "E" overlay.
If it's only a typo, as I hope, then the new-eu-paradigm.txt should instead
say "S" instead of "E" like this:

3) <snip>
d) Use the DIGI symbol with "S" overlay.
d) -or- use the "1" overlay for WIDE1-1 ONLY home digis.

Hi Bob

I disagree with your conclusion

The path of least resistance is always the most efficient to get something
done. So in simple terms all Europe needs to do is disable WIDE and WIDEn-n
in line with the following guidelines

Afternoon,

For what its worth, in the South East of Ireland, we are using WIDEn-n,
recommended for Mobile stations is WIDE1-1, WIDE2-1. RELAY was deprecated
about a year ago, and I don't think we support it anymore. When we replace
the UI-DIGI nodes with Scott N1VG's OT2s, then RELAY will be a long distant
memory.

Not at all. The _visitors_ have the problem. Or those following them on
their maps.

Anyway, you don't achieve a system change by not communicating with the
neighbours (danes, swedes, brits, scots, germans, east norwegians).

(I made a typo; it is LA3QMA, sorry)

With the distance across the Atlantic and the very different traffic
pattern, there should have been no need to change the existing traceable
system in Europe with the new north american traceable system, before
having reached a mutual agreement in most of the APRS-active part of Region 1.

(EOD in the UI-View list; this is cross-posted to aprssig)

Kind of off topic, but... install Linux, install WINE. I'm not using it, but
