Laptops i would be a little more concerned about due to the screen, and
maybe the HD, as far as radio equipment i would not worry about it, unless
you have a remote head on the dash.
Summertime temps in a car can reach 200 degrees. This is for the phoenix
area, Tucson is cooler.
I have my tracker on both cars in the trunk/back of the truck for years now
and there still working fine.

Hi Gary
I will be all over Arizona. From Tucson to the Grand
Canyon. After the DCC I will be doing the National Parks thing.
Thanks Alan for the extended forecast if that is correct then even
90's will not be much different than Long Island in the summer time.
I was of course worried of the 110 and higher tempertures.

I have been using the heater in the car more than the a/c lately. Once you get
into the higher elevations, Arizona can cool off quite a bit.

Sometimes an LCD display will darken, but it recovers, If it doesn't
look like rain, leave a window cracked open. Makes it nicer for
humans, too, when you return to the car. Get a sun reflector to put
in the windshield when parked in the sun. I am not sure it keeps the
interior that much cooler, but it prevents a hot steering wheel and
shades LCD panels.

We're always ready to listen. Another possibility would be to add support
for it into GPSD, which quite a few open-source programs support, then
Xastir and others wouldn't have to change a thing to get the new
capability.

Have you looked at netstumbler? www.netstumbler.com It has support for
reading GPS positions (it reads NMEA GPS data) There are also similar
wifi mapping applications out there.
I have heard of companies trying to do this, one article I read said
they always seem to run into 2 problems.
1. Some Wifi systems change their SSID,(usually advanced configs, or an
easy way to allow changing security profiles) And mapping Wifi is a
changing thing, people are continually turning off changing or buying
new wifi equipment.
2. The Wifi connection cloud can be huge in some cases, the largest wifi
node can easily span a city block or more.

See you at TAPR DCC John!
I am hoping to stop by Biosphere 2 as a side trip. I think it is a great
idea, even if it didn't work last time. Maybe with the moon and Mars back
on the horizon they will give it another go.
