WPG is a puzzle generator for the Macintosh.
The program is written in C++ by OH6KVF and is compiled with CodeWarrior 8.0. The program does after executing not check the system it is
running on. It runs well under system 7.0 and higher. It is tested on a
Mac LC and a PowerMac. It is not a FAT application.
WPG is freeware and may be used freely. The author does not carry any responsibility for the use and eventually redistribution of WPG.
When you are using the program, I would like to receive a copy of word lists
you created. You can send it via PR to OH6KVF @O H6RBV or on a diskette to:

WPG is sent via the PR network in five files, this file included.
The four .HQX (BinHex4) files together form a folder containing the WPG program,
a folder with several word lists (all in Dutch, except the word list named
'Landen') and a manual in Dutch. Use CompactPro to decrompress the files.

Although WPG menu items, etc. is written in the Dutch language, it is very well capable of generating puzzles in other languages as well. Simply write your own word list ('rubriek'). A word list is a text file and can be written with SimpleText (not incl

The list is terminated with a series af asterisks (min. 1).
Words/terms as e.g. 'Office table' will have to be written as one word: 'officetable'. In other words, the 'space' character is not allowed. It will be overwritten by WPG.
Each word is to be followed by a <Return> character (= CR).
WPG translates all letters to capitals in the puzzle.
Save the file as a normal text file. The file name is used by WPG as name for the word list.
Use WPG as follows:
- Start WPG by double clicking the program icon.
- From the File menu choose 'Nieuwe Puzzel...' (New puzzle).
- Open the word list (see in Folder 'rubrieken')
- in the setting menu following enter the sizes for the puzzle:
Aantal rijen: (number of rows, 20 by default)
Aantal kolommen: (Number of columns, 20 by default)
Voeg extra spatie in: (Use an extra space character in the puzzle diagram)
- Click on the button 'Maak' (=make)
The puzzle is now generated.
- Save the file. The default file name looks as follows:
WPG <ddmmyy> <word list name>
- Open the puzzle file with a text editor (e.g. SimpleText)
The output from WPG is again a text file. Double clicking this text file automatically starts SimpleText and opens the file.
The puzzle file looks like:
- intro text in Dutch
- word list name
- puzzle diagram
- words included in the diagram (sorted)
- solution
The solution is a selection of words taken from the word list.
An Error message 'De puzzel kon niet gemaakt worden. Probeer opnieuw'
(=The puzzle could not be made. Try again.) occures when there are too few words in the list or the size of the puzzle is too large. Either select a smaller size or add words to the word list you selected.
