New features in MacAPRS 2.0
* Enhanced Call-Book CD-ROM support
The following CDs are now supported
* Buckmaster Old version, US Only (ALL Buckmaster CDs)
* Buckmaster World pre-1995
* Buckmaster World, current. This is THE BEST!! and MOST data
* Percon
* Amsoft
* QRZ
* FCC Data from Internet
In a couple cases, you have to make an Index file, but the
ability to do that is right in the program.
* With all of these data bases, you can open a CALLBOOK LIST window that
shows ALL of the call signs in
the data base. This list is searchable by call-sign (only at this time)
and you can scroll through it, then
option-double-click and it will show you where that person lives (see
below on option-double-click)
* If you have one of the above data bases, you can create another Index
file that enables the following:
You can click-drag a region, say for example, 20 miles radius from your
home, it will search through the
entire data base and give you a list of ALL the hams that live in that
area. Then you can SAVE that list to a
tab-delimited file that is importable into any database program such as
FileMaker.!!
THIS IS WAY COOL! And it takes less than 10 seconds on a 25hmz 68040.
and about a second!!! on a PPC
You can create as many different SELECTED CALL SIGN LISTS as you want
and have them all open at the
same time.
* In either list, the FULL callbook list, or the SELECTED STATION LIST,
it displays call-signs with expired
licenses in RED and callsigns whose birthday is that day in BLUE..
* You can SAVE from any of the station lists, i.e. ONLY the weather
stations, or all stations, or all flagged
stations etc. This SAVE creates a list of POSITION REPORTS that is
reloadable back into the program.
* From ALL LISTS,(Station lists, Airport List, DX List, etc etc) You can
OPTION-DOUBLE-CLICK, or
OPTION-RETURN and it willsearch through all currently open maps, find
the BEST (highestmagnification) map
that that item (station, airport, DX country, etc) can be shown on and
it switches TO that map, and shows
you where it its. In the case of the CALL BOOK list, it will then SPEAK
the call and name to you (If you have
the speech manager loaded)
* If you have the Speech Manager, you can select between NORMAL letters
for call signs, i.e. Double-you
You Two Zee, or you select Phonetic calls, i.e. Whiskey Uniform Two
ZuuLuu
* When you quit out of the program, it automatically saves the Packet
Statistics and the Weather data (if
you have a WX station). When you start the program back up, it will
re-load these data files, that way
you don't loose the fancy graphs when you quit and re-start.
* It now supports the Heathkit-5001 weather station, However, this has
NOT been tested with a real unit.
If you have a Peet Bros Weather Station, make sure you go to the
Weather Settings and select it,
where-as before, you did not have to do this.
* It supports Wind Gust from the Peet U-II and from the Heathkit. This
info is transmitted in the weather
info and displayed in theWeather Station List.
* In the past, Option-Double-Click on a location in a map-window takes
you tothe NEXT smaller map that
contains that point. Shift-Option-Double-Click takes you back UP to the
next BIGGER map.
In addition to all of that: Control-Option-Double-Click takes you to
the SMALLEST map that contains the
point that you double-clicked on. This is good for going from the
Entire-US map to your local state map in
one shot, instead of having to do it in a few steps, or having to go to
the map menu and selecting the map
by name.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now before you to excited on the next item, realize that:
A: This is why it is a major jump from 1.5.5 to 2.0
B: This is working, but in its EARLY stages, and has a ways to go!
MacAPRS now supports BIT-MAP maps, i.e.
* a scanned in nautical chart
* a screen-dump from Delorme
* a fancy map TIFF file from the USGS
* Any map you want to scan in on your scanner.
In the near future, I will put up some test-maps on ftp.tapr.org that
have the correct EXTRA data that
makes this work.
MacAPRS needs a special RESOURCE attached to a normal PICT file to make
all of this magic work.
Steve Dimse (KO4HD) from Florida is working on a simple utility to add
the coordinates to the files. In the
near future, MacAPRS will have this capability too.
