Official Apple ][ clones (sanctioned by and approved by Apple) were the
ITT2020 and Bell&Howell computer. Franklin made a unit which was
essentially copied including copied ROM images. It eventually lost a court
case and changed the ROMS but it still was allowed to sell hardware clones.

Mac clones were made by Power Computing ( I had one of those), also legal
clones were made by Motorola, Radius, APS Technologies, Daystar, and Umax.
All were officially sanctioned by Apple.

Who cares about mass market when a niche company like Apple has a net
income of US$ 1.335billion!
