Hi Terry and all,
Certainly, not only have many tried but they've succeeded and some are
made commercially. Oh and not just mobile antennas but home brew, not as
rugged but just as portable. Just to set you straight, at HF a vehicle is
not a ground plane but a capacitor coupling RF to earth and the same goes
for your aluminium sheet. Rather than something that stiff I recommend a
roll of window screen and a few rocks.
