You must be joking Andy. Being an optimist and liking to give people the
benefit of the doubt, I made a "contribution" for this project and because
it was the work of a Radio Amateur, I was prepared to trust him.

BIG mistake! (sorry the following is so long, but it is all true)

Here is a copy of my payment to HB9ABX;

> Amount: 22.00 EUR
> Transaction ID: 1LP21792K5603002X (PayPal)
> Subject: HB9ABX Antenna Project

I sent my new address, on January 20th.

In March, the month that Felix had stated that the antenna construction
book would be ready, I sent him:

"Hi Felix, well it is now the month of March but nothing heard from you!"

HB9ABX replied:-
> I have received your address change.
> Here I have dificult access to internet, as I am at the
> moment in Chile . Only once or twice per week.

When I sent him a reminder, this is what I got back:-
> Hi Mel, I am still in Chile
> returning this week...
>
> and
>
> please note what I wrote on my homepage
> about what happened!

So I went to the above linked site and found this:-

> The reproach of: making misuse of Ham Radio is without
> any foundation:
> I consider it completeley appropriate, to request an expense
> contribution for the extraordinary expenditure of this
> project, for handing out a detailed construction guide.
> This has nothing to do with commercialisation.

So I wrote asking for a refund because HB9ABX stated (above in the last
sentence) that he was "not able to go ahead with the project". Here is
the payment detail of my refund:-
> This email confirms that HB9ABX Antenna Project has sent you €19.40 EUR
> with PayPal.

Here is what HB9ABX sent me:-
> according your mail dated 08.03.2006
> I will refund your contribution as requested.
> Please find below the calculation of what I received from you,
> what I can pay back by PayPal, transaction of today.

> Euro 22 - 1.21 = Euro 20.79
> Euro 20.79 = sFr. 31.35
> sFr 31.35 = Euro 19.40 for Refund

> I am sorry, that the project could not terminate as planned,
> you know the reason.

The above amount is LESS than what I sent HB9ABX so I sent this:
"Dear Felix.

This is not correct. According to my PayPal receipt, I made you the
following payment.

 Amount: 22.00 EUR
Currency Conversion: 15,52 GBP is 22.00 EUR
 Currency From: GBP
 Currency To: EUR
Exchange Rate: 1.41824Subject: HB9ABX Antenna Project
Note:This is the contribution to the antenna project,
and you will receive the construction guide with its first release.
Please mail me your mailing address for that purpose. Many thanks

 Felix HB9ABX

At today's rate of exchange this should be as follows:

Live mid-market rates as of 2006.03.14 13:46:20 UTC.
 22.5227 EUR
 Euro is 15.5120 GBP
 United Kingdom Pounds
1 EUR is 0.688730 GBP 1 GBP is 1.45195 EUR

 22.52 EUR
 19.40 EUR is 3.12 EURO

You have just sent 19.40, so please make another payment to me for
3.12 EURO and we shall be equal, otherwise you will have made a profit
from me by keeping my money all this time!"

I sent the above on 14th March but to date have NOT heard a thing. I am
glad to have got *something* back!

Now I read Andy's message in which he shows that HB9ABX is still offering
the construction guide but no longer as a book but now on CD and on his
website he is still asking for contributions to a project that he had
earlier claimed "was not able to go ahead with the project".

The reader can draw their own conclusions! :-(
